Timber

May 4, 2018/in Places /by Ben McRae

Located on the corner of Robson and Jervis, Timber boasts a beautiful space with floor to ceiling windows, an excellent craft beer list, and savoury Canadian comfort food. In paying tribute to B.C.’s rich timber history and the beauties who built our ‘True North Strong & Free!’, this is a can’t miss spot in Vancouver’s West End.

Timber’s dedication to using locally sourced products as well as making mostly everything in house is a testament to the passion of head Chef Chris Wittaker. A beacon of new-age thinking and local responsibility, the menu is very reasonably priced for the quality and offers food & drink specials every day!

Happy Hour runs every day of the week from 3-6pm where you can toss back an ice cold can of Central City beer for only $4! – Or munch on the 1/2 price snack menu while sipping on a $7 glass of wine. They also keep the party going by offering Happy Hour on Saturday & Sunday and weekend Happy Hours are harder to come by so take advantage!

Bring on more drink specials! Who doesn’t love 1/2 price bottles of wine? Timber knows that by mid-week everyone could use a little pick me up, which is why they offer 1/2 off their entire wine list every Wednesday! Looking to wet your whistle with some local craft beer? Head to Timber for their Kill the Keg Thursdays, featuring $5 sleeves of craft beer until the keg is gone!

If you came for Timber’s glorious craft beer list you’ll soon fall to the temptation of their down right delicious food menu! Head Chef Chris Whittaker’s philosophy sums up what makes this Robson Street restaurant a stand out in Vancouver’s diverse culinary scene. “Respect our land and water. Use local suppliers: small farms and wild food. Nose-to-tail cooking. On premises baking and preserving. Use all resources wisely and – in the end – waste nothing”. A beautiful philosophy that serves as the foundation for a beautiful establishment. Put Timber on your list of spots to check out and you’ll see what we’re talking about! Until next time…

Timber’s Official Patio Launch Party on Saturday May 12th, from 3-9pm. Featuring Bomber Brewing $15 Pitchers of Park Life Passion Fruit Ale & Skyline Lager!

Central City Brew Pub on Beatty Street – Dine Out Vancouver Festival 2018

January 24, 2018/in Places /by Ben McRae

Central City Brew Pub Dine out menu is an amazing selection for $40! The flavour profiles blend together from selection to selection. We had the enjoyment of getting the full experience and left there feeling very satisfied and yes, more than a little buzzed! The portions are the perfect size with all plates having a balance and combination of delicious elements.

Central City Brew Pub on Beatty Street

For the first course we ordered Leek and Aged Cheddar Soup boasting their own Red Racer Pilsner broth which was hearty and a great warm up for our main course. The beautifully plated and even more delicious Seared Branzino, served with a warm Mediterranean chick pea salad and kalamata olive buerre blanc. You can also indulge your taste buds with the Red Racer Pale Ale Braised Lamb Shank, with gorgonzola pearl barley risotto and butter poached broccolini.

With over 40 taps Central City is one of those breweries you never know what to order because you want to try absolutely everything! The trendy yet cozy atmosphere combined with their knowledgeable staff bring a welcoming charm (our server brought a mystery beer and she absolutely nailed it with the Dogwood London Fog). Their cocktail list ranges from classics to up and coming flavors which caters to everybody.
I’ve been preaching all week that if there is ever a time to Dine Out, this is it! Do yourself a favour and check out Central City Brew Pub on Beatty street (right across from BC Place). It’s a time for everyone to shake off the winter blues and enjoy amazing culinary experiences!

How to Have the Best Basic Birthday in Vancouver

December 12, 2017/in Features, Journeys /by Bella Tang-Graham

Your true friends will always arrive at your door bearing champagne and orange juice to kick start the day’s festivities. No basic Vancouver birthday is complete without a mimosa (or six): the pregame for birthday brunch is vital. Pick an aesthetic spot to insta-story your first beverages and head out to brunch.

Catch 122 Cafe Bistro

We chose Catch 122 and ordered an Espressotini (for the sleepy friend), a Bourbon Bellini (for the friend not willing to give up on the bubbles yet) and a Rosemary Maple Bourbon Sour (for the classy friend). All three were delicious and had us feeling warm, fuzzy, and ready to carb up. Try the breakfast sandwich, with thick cut bacon, folded scrambled eggs, avocado and caramelized onion goat cheese, or the lamb and eggs with braised lamb shoulder and polenta. Equipped with a brunch and a buzz, take on the day’s activities with the confidence of someone who is day drunk at two in the afternoon on a Monday.

The Flying Pig Gastown

After draining our savings accounts on Robson for a few hours, we headed to Flying Pig Gastown: the iconic Vancouver birthday dinner spot. Here, you can spoil the birthday girl (or boy) with bottles of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, gingery Moscow mules, a walnut old-fashioned that tastes like maple walnut ice cream and Burt Reynolds shots sure to make you feel fresh the following morning. Sober up with the decadent truffle mac and cheese, lemony, parmesan-topped crispy Brussels sprouts and the wild seafood pappardelle with brin fresh seafood and a spicy rose sauce. The Flying Pig also kindly provided us with a giant piece of vanilla-chocolate cake the size of the birthday girl’s (beautiful) head.

The Diamond

Finish a perfect evening heart-racingly close to the suave cast of Riverdale at The Diamond. Fan girl at the top of Jughead Jones’ toque-clad head, one booth over, as you sip your Gassy Jack’s Lady made with local crème de cassis, amontillado sherry, and lemon. Try not to trip down the Diamond’s stairs as you side-eye FP Jones and Kevin Keller on your way out. Get home safe to the loving embrace of your bed, head swimming with birthday friend-love, an unseemly amount of cocktails, and dreams of horseback riding into the sunset with Cole Sprouse. Till next year!
